You’ve learnt how to set up a WordPress blog, and now you’re thinking “I need to start publishing articles or some other form of content.”
However, there is only one issue.
You’ve never published anything before, and you’re not sure how much effort it’s going to take.
In this article, I am going to discuss how long should it take you to publish an article.
I am also going to be discussing how long it takes me to write articles (Including this one).
Quality Vs. Quantity
You’ve probably already heard of this topic since so many other bloggers discuss it.
When I first got started with building niche sites back in 2015, I had no idea of what I should be publishing.
So, I decided that I should publish everything and I went on to publish multiple blog posts every day.
I am not the only one, huge businesses like Buzzfeed publishes over 200 blog posts a day.
The main difference between Buzzfeed and I is that they have hundreds of employees, whereas I am just a one-man show.
As you can expect, I burnt myself out pretty quickly.
Then, I tried spending weeks (if not months) on a single piece of content.
That also didn’t work for the opposite reason publishing too many pieces of content didn’t work.
How I Set My Standards for Blog Posts Today
After years of writing, I now can create content at a reasonable pace which allows me to focus on the quality of my content.
For beginners, my actionable blogging tip for you would be just to create content.
I know that pretty much just contradicts everything I just said, however, there is a reason I am saying this.
When you’re new to blogging, you’re not sure how to write compelling content.
If you’re anything like how I was, you can barely put 400 words together without your brain shutting down.
No, you shouldn't publish everything you write at the beginning, but you should always be practicing.
If you end up writing something that you’re proud of, publish it.
If not see why you don’t like it and improve.
For me, I only publish content that I feel proud of and that I think will be useful to other people (like you).
How Long Does It Take to Write 1000 Words in a Blog Post?
The answer to this question solely depends on how many words your article is but I am going to give you a rough estimate based on my own experiences.
If you’re new to blogging, it should take you about 2 hours to write a 500-word article.
Depending on how fast you can type, that number could go up to 750-words.
When I built my first affiliate site, it took me about 90 minutes to write 400-word articles.
Considering that most content on the first page of Google has around 2,000 words, I would say it should take you about 4 hours to write a piece of content worthy of the first page.
In addition to that, you have to add on the amount of time it will take you to find other resources to link out to and images to break up your content in a visual sense.
That could take a few hours for you to do as a beginner, so in total it should take you roughly 6 - 8 hours worth of work to publish a 2,000-word article.
It sounds like a lot; however, if you only work an hour a day on your article, you should be publishing 1 article a week at least.
How Long Does It Take Me to Publish an Article?
Honestly, I am lazy a lot of the time, which is a bad habit that I need to get myself out of (and it’s something you should NEVER turn into an everyday habit).
However, after 3 years of writing articles, I have become pretty good at it.
I can probably write double the amount of a beginner.
So on average, it would take me about an hour to write 1,000 - 2,000 words and it would take me about 30 minutes to prepare everything else for the article.
That also thanks to some of the time management tips that I have tried and tested for myself.
Now, that’s pretty quick for creating such a long piece of content, however, writing at that speed comes with time and I always try not to sacrifice quality in the process.
One more actionable tip I want to leave you with is to always plan your articles before writing them.
If there is something that I want to talk about, I tend to spend just as much time researching that topic as I do writing my article.
These days I spend more time researching than I do writing.
